Dr. Nitin Ron, a physician serving at the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, will explore the role of love, kindness and compassion during this time — and how the practices of mindfulness and meditation equip us to live with hope in a time of crisis. He will also explore the neuroscience behind compassion, discuss how the practice of mindfulness impacts our relationships, and offer a brief and empowering meditation for challenging times.

In This Session:

  • The neuroscience behind love, courage, kindness and compassion
  • Practical techniques to maintain our love, calmness and courage in difficult and challenging situations. Included is a 5-minute grounding meditation to anchor us in our courage and love
  • How the practice of mindfulness can bring healing and love into our relationships with our families

Dr. Nitin Ron

Neonatologist, Assistant Professor, TED Speaker, Neuroscientist, Mountaineer

Dr. Nitin Ron, a pediatrician and neonatologist, is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Assistant Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital (affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College). He's been in practice for over two decades, having done his Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine from Brown University, Rhode Island, where his research field was neonatal neuroscience.

He is Chairman of the Physician Health Committee, has given three TEDx talks, and has been leading a research project in the Himalayas, including the Mt. Everest region, involving ultrasound of the eye (optic nerve) and the body, and neurocognitive function studies to predict mountain sickness. His research also involves studying the effect of meditation and pranayama in acclimatizing the body to high altitude. A book he co-authored with his father, Pranayam-Breathing Techniques for Health, Healing and Tranquility, was published by Spavian publishing.

He's been an invited speaker at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, as well as at numerous national and international conferences, and has conducted several workshops on this topic. He was an invited inaugural speaker at the International Science and Film Festival, NYC, in 2016, where he spoke on the neuroscience of mindfulness and meditation. He's led several workshops on this topic in New York City as well as internationally, the latest one being "A Mindful Society" conference in Toronto in 2019, where he led a workshop on preventing burnout.
