Mark Coleman began meditating in 1982 in England, which opened up a life long exploration of mindfulness meditation practice primarily within the Buddhist tradition. He is now a senior meditation teacher at Spirit Rock and has taught insight meditation retreats since 1997 worldwide. Mark is passionate about nature and integrating meditation and natural world and leads wilderness retreats internationally through Awake in the Wild retreats.
Mark cares deeply about training the next generation of meditation teachers and co-founded the Mindfulness Training Instititute which runs year long mindfulness teacher trainings in the UK and US. He also leads year-long Awake in the Wild Meditation in Nature teacher trainings in the US. Founder of the Mindfulness Institute Mark has brought mindfulness trainings, consulting and coaching to organizations across the world. He is also a trainer and teacher trainer for Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute developed at Google.
Mark has been teaching meditation online for many years, and has meditations with the NYTimes Virtual Reality app and with the platforms Whil, Grokker, Insight Timer and other online venues.
He is author of Awake in the Wild: Mindfulness in Nature as a Path of Self-Discovery and Make Peace With Your Mind – How Mindfulness and Compassion Can Help Free You From the Inner Critic and Awake in the Wild – Mindfulness in Nature as a Path of Self-Discovery. He lives in Sausalito, Marin and likes nothing more than hiking biking and kayaking in the outdoors.
